Care for What You Keep
A little care goes a long way. Follow these simple steps to keep your Ole Henry goods looking their best through everyday use and meaningful moments.
If your product includes specific care instructions, follow those first.
Engraved Journals
For our leatherette, simulated leather, and textured-cover journals:
Gently dust the cover with a soft, dry cloth.
For leatherette or simulated leather covers, spot-clean with a barely damp cloth, testing a small, discreet area first. Dry promptly.
Keep paper pages and cover edges away from moisture.
Avoid alcohol, solvents, abrasive cleaners, and scrubbing over the engraving.
Do not apply leather oils or conditioners to simulated leather covers.
Store away from direct sunlight, heaters, and damp spaces.
Avoid forcing the binding or overstretching the elastic closure.
For textured covers with an unspecified material, use a dry cloth unless the included instructions allow damp cleaning.
Acacia Cutting & Serving Boards
For Grandma’s Biscuits, The Lord’s Prayer, Time Well Spent, and our Ole Henry logo and checkered boards:
Hand wash briefly with mild dish soap, warm water, and a soft sponge.
Rinse and towel-dry promptly, then allow the board to dry fully with air circulating around both sides.
Never soak or place in the dishwasher.
Avoid abrasive pads and vigorous scrubbing over engraved details.
Keep away from prolonged moisture, direct heat, and hot cookware.
To preserve the artwork, use a suitable unengraved side for chopping.
Store in a dry location after the board has dried completely.
Conditioning your board
For boards with an oil finish, use a food-grade cutting-board oil or conditioner compatible with that finish, following its directions. Boards with a glossy or sealed finish may require different care—contact us before applying a treatment if you are unsure.
Do not sand engraved areas, as sanding can remove the design.
Wooden Ring & Keepsake Boxes
For our round birch wood boxes:
Dust with a soft, dry cloth.
Keep the unfinished wood dry; avoid soaking or washing under running water.
If a spill occurs, blot promptly and allow the box and lid to air-dry separately.
Avoid oils, polishes, and household cleaners unless approved for the product.
Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and humid storage areas.
Fit the lid gently without forcing it.
Use for dry rings and small keepsakes; do not use for liquids.
Caring for Engraved Details
Engraving is part of the surface itself. Friction, cutting, sanding, and abrasive cleaning can gradually wear away fine details. Gentle cleaning helps preserve the design.
Natural Character
Wood grain, knots, color, and texture vary from piece to piece. These natural differences are part of what makes your item unique. Wood may also change slightly in appearance as it ages.
